The Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) is a fantastic data collection tool, but what happens after you’ve learned about the findings from the report? How can you turn that knowledge into action? This webinar discussed two resources that can help you apply WEAI findings in your project: (1) the Intervention Guide for the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index; and (2) the Feed the Future Gender Integration Framework.
The Intervention Guide for the WEAI is a resource to help USAID missions and implementers design interventions for the domains of empowerment prioritized in the WEAI using market facilitation and social/behavior change approaches. The Intervention Guide for the WEAI complements the Feed the Future Gender Integration Framework, which is an analysis tool to help USAID missions and implementers use WEAI data to determine where are the programmatic needs and ensure that they are being addressed.
This webinar explored what’s in the Intervention Guide for the WEAI, how it complements the Gender Integration Framework, and how to use both resources to best implement interventions within a project setting.
Lindsey Jones-Renaud is an advisor on gender mainstreaming and women's empowerment with ACDI/VOCA and co-author of the Intervention Guide for the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index. She has more than 10 years of experience in international development, women’s empowerment, gender mainstreaming, youth development, community advocacy, training, facilitation, research, and program management. Lindsey is also the co-founder of a monthly Twitter chat, Gender Happy Hour (#GenderHH), where she co-hosts virtual discussions about a range of topics related to gender equality in the US and around the globe. Krista Jacobs is a Gender Advisor at the Bureau for Food Security and a development economist whose work focuses on gender, food security and assets. Current and recent work includes advising agricultural projects on gender integration, program evaluation, developing methods to measure women’s and men’s land and asset rights, building gender capacity of community-based programs, and building the monitoring and evaluation capacity of local civil-society organizations. Her work has focused in East and West Africa. Dr. Jacobs holds a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis.
Jenn Williamson is Director of Gender Mainstreaming and Women’s Empowerment at ACDI/VOCA, managing the gender and behavior change unit in the Technical Learning and Application division. She oversees strategic gender equity initiatives, including the adoption and implementation of ACDI/VOCA’s policy for promoting gender equity, trainings, workshops, gender analyses, and assessments for international programs funded by agencies and foundations including USAID, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Bank. Dr. Williamson is also the learning coordinator for the Women’s Economic Empowerment component of the USAID-funded Leveraging Economic Opportunities (LEO) project. Prior to taking on a director role, Jenn worked as the headquarters Gender Technical Specialist for Counterpart International, where she headed the development of gender integration policies, tools, and resources and provided strategic guidance and technical support in gender integration across the organization. An expert researcher and writer, Dr. Williamson has designed multiple training tools and resources in addition to publishing two books, four peer-reviewed articles, and 33 research essays, as well as serving as head editor of a volume of essays and an academic journal. Dr. Williamson holds a B.A. in Studies in Women and Gender and English from the University of Virginia as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in English, with a concentration in gender, race, and intersectionality, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
